The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) is a flagship placement-linked skill training program of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. As a Project Implementation Agency (PIA) since 2014, Upasana Education Trust has witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact this program has on rural households.
Why DDU-GKY is Unique
Unlike typical education courses, DDU-GKY focuses exclusively on rural youth from poor households (aged 15 to 35). It is designed to facilitate:
- Fully Funded Residential Training: Students receive free boarding, lodging, course materials, and uniform.
- Quality Infrastructure: Training centers must meet strict guidelines for classrooms, laboratories, and safety.
- Mandatory Placements: PIAs must place at least 70% of trained candidates in formal jobs with a minimum prescribed salary.
Key Impact Metrics at Upasana
Over the past decade, we have established residential training academies across Odisha, training thousands of young men and women in:
- General Duty Assistant (GDA)
- Industrial Sewing Machine Operator (ISMO)
- Data Entry Operator (DEO)
By focusing on soft skills, spoken English, basic IT, and workplace safety alongside technical skills, we prepare rural youth to comfortably transition into urban work environments (like hospitals, corporate offices, and apparel units).
DDU-GKY is not just a training program; it is a sustainable bridge out of poverty for thousands of rural families.
